Life hacks of our grandmothers: which ones work and which don't?
Little home tricks of our mothers and grandmothers often help us out in a variety of situations. But do they always work and is it worth continuing to believe in them
Reliable and still relevant methods
To get rid of the scale, which is formed inside the teapot, you must boil water in it with vinegar.
You can, of course, use modern means for descaling, but the popular method of controlling deposits on heating appliances using vinegar is reliable, cheap and harmless. It is suitable for modern electric kettles. Dissolve about 2–3 tablespoons of ordinary table vinegar in a liter of water and boil this water in a teapot. Rinse the kettle thoroughly before use.
CLEANING FINGERS AND SKIN OF HANDS AFTER CLEANING POTATOES, BEETS OR WORKING WITH BERRIES CAN BE USED WITH THE CASE OF A LEMON.
Darkened hands and fingers can be wiped with a slice of lemon or rinsed in a solution of water with vinegar. Quite an effective method. You can do the same before you start working with coloring products - prevention always gives good results.
SALTED SOUP CAN BE CORRECTED BY RICE.
This popular method of saving soup has every right to exist. It is advised to put a handful of rice in a canvas rag and dip in a saucepan for 15 minutes. It is much easier to put rice in a bag in the soup - so you will have a delicious soup and even boiled rice in addition.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO CUT THE BULB WITHOUT Tears, IF THE CONTINUOUSLY MAKES A KNIFE IN COLD WATER.
For those who weep over onions, cold water is a real salvation. Fill a wide bowl with ice water and rinse the knife from time to time. Before slicing, do not forget to rinse the peeled onion under a stream of cold water. There are recommendations to cut the lemon in half and regularly wipe the blade with it. It is also believed - the sharper the knife, the less caustic juice is sprayed when cutting onions, therefore less tears.
ROSES WILL BE LONGER LEFT IF LAYING ASPIRINE TABLETS IN WATER.
That's right. Aspirin also helps preserve chrysanthemums, carnations and gladioli. But in the water for daffodils add salt.
EGG PROTEINS ARE BEATS FASTER AND LONGLY SAVE THE FORM, IF ADDING TO THEM A LITTLE LEMON JUICE OR A PINCH OF SMALL SALT.
Indeed, a few drops of lemon juice or salt will help to quickly whip the proteins into a strong foam. Eggs should certainly be fresh and preferably directly from the refrigerator.
Useless or deprecated methods
THE EGGS WILL NOT BEAT AT THE BOILING AND THE PROTEIN WILL NOT FLOW OUT IF IT IS DOWN THEM IN SALTED WATER.
If there was even a small crack on the shell, but you did not notice this, then salt will not help here. If the egg was not going to crack, then it is unlikely to break during cooking - you just need to carefully lower it into the water. However, some believe that during the cooking, the eggs beat against each other and the salt somehow prevents cracking.
OIL STAIN ON CLOTHING SHOULD BE AS SOON ASAP TO SPRAY SALT.
Salt is really capable of dissolving some types of impurities, but by no means all and, most importantly, it does not affect greasy and oily stains. Inks are sprinkled with salt, fresh traces of chocolate, coffee and tea are well removed with a strong saline solution. Do not rub salt into the stain, otherwise it will fix "tightly". It is best to sprinkle a greasy stain with talcum powder or even tooth powder, then iron it and leave it for a while.
LEMON WILL HELP RETURN SHINE TO LEATHER SHOES.
They say that shoes can be wiped with a slice of lemon, and then rubbed with a soft flannel cloth. In fact, this procedure will not bring any visible results, except, perhaps, the rest of the lemon pulp on the shoes - so since you want to try it, wipe the shoes with a cotton pad dipped in lemon juice. Among modern shoe polish products, there are many that perfectly restore the luster of leather shoes.
MILK DOES NOT STILL, IF BEFORE HOW TO BOIL IT, RINSE THE CASING PAN WITH COLD WATER.
Cold water does not play any role here. The main thing is in which pan you boil the milk and how thick it has. This is best done in a teflon-coated pan.
A BURNING POT CAN BE CLEANED BY BOILING A SALT SOLUTION IN IT.
Just boiling salt water in a pan is not enough, you need to leave it to soak for several hours. And if the dishes have not been cleaned, you will have to repeat the procedure again and again. In fact, this problem can be dealt with much faster. First, clean the pan with conventional means as much as possible, then half-fill with water and a cleaning agent (preferably based on biocomponents) at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon per liter, put on fire and boil for 10 minutes, then rinse with dishwashing liquid. A regular hard sponge will help remove any remaining particles.
DRIED NAIL VARNISH MAY BE DILUTED WITH A VARNISH REMOVER.
Perhaps 40 years ago this method was the only way to revive nail polish. After this event, the varnish loses all its properties: it lays unevenly and does not last long. Nowadays, you can save your favorite varnish in a less barbaric way with the help of a special liquid for diluting the varnish, which can be bought in the departments of decorative cosmetics.
